The US's best scores were in the building sector, where we scored 17 out of a possible 28, and got a full 6 points for having good appliance energy efficiency standards.

i tried to do my part to consume less energy by hypermiling, but every time i tried, someone either cut in front of me or ride by rear end. so all i can do is accelerate to brake 10 yard in front of me. then repeat over, and over, and over. . . .
soon i'll have to fill up and change my brake pad!

Are they saying that we use inefficient energy types, or we use what we have inefficiently?

Energy efficiency "reduces costs and pollution". A key saving that is not mentioned in this article but is one of the byproducts of less pollution is lower health costs. The amount of money spent treating those who live near coal-using power plants, for example, is staggering. And the track record of the coal mining industry is well south of awful. So moving toward more efficient energy uses in just that one energy sector would make a big difference.

I disagree with the ACEEE's premise as stated in their introduction.
Energy efficiency is but one component in overall business efficiency, which successful businesses strive for. Countries who force "energy efficiency" down the throats of businesses decrease that overall efficiency and hurt their own economy.

Good. We need more cheap energy so we don't have to conserve it.

This is no surprise. Our culture is extremely wasteful; rife with conspicuous consumerism.

At present consumption, it's estimated that we have 25 - 30 years of oil left. We have to do something.

I am sure Afghanistan is high on the list. If you don't have any modern conveniences you don't have to worry about efficiency.

Oh, and let's not forget Oprah, who visited Denmark during the last climate initiative, was asked to see a "typical household" and, when she did, was appalled upon walking in and asked "...Where's your stuff?" The non varnished reply: "... there's not much left after taxes..." Look at living standards and disposable income to get the real picture.

9 out of 12 proves our leadership is crap and all need to be dumped in November. Vote the incumbents out and give someone else a chance to screw it up in a different way.
